NBA Star Biyombo Is Donating His Salary to Build a Hospital in His Native Congo

After the three last seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, the 29-year-old NBA player Bismack Biyombo sat out at the start of this season because he mourned his dad whom he lost in August.

When he decided to get back to the court, he signed with the Phoenix Suns. His goal was to make the season all about his dad and this is why he chose to wear the Number 18 in honor of his dad’s birthday.

He’s also announced another part of the honoring of his dad: he’ll donate his $1.3 million salary from this season towards building a hospital in their native Democratic Republic of the Congo.

NBA Star Will Donate His Entire Salary from this Season to Build a Hospital in Congo

He said that he informed his agent that the salary will be given for the construction of a hospital in his native country so that he can give back to the people there.

He wants to improve the living conditions there so that people can have hope for their loved ones to live and see another day.

The hospital will be named after his dad.

Unfortunately, Biyombo’s dad caught Covid-19 in July and though he recovered, the virus worsened his overall health and he passed away shortly after. Biyombo tried to help him out.

He contacted hospitals from other countries and had his dad flown to Turkey for medical care.

This was the experience that inspired the player to make a hospital in Congo. He’s blessed that he could be on a medical plane and have his dad taken to Europe for better medical treatment.

But, not everyone has this opportunity, some not even basic medical care.

He wants those people back home to have decent conditions for medical treatment.

Biyombo Foundation Has Already Done so many Great Things for Congo

The hospital building project will be managed by the Bismack Biyombo Foundation that the player had launched with his now late father Francois in 2016.

He hopes that many lives will be saved and he’s happy that the other side will get something from them.

He believes this is the least he can do for his dad after everything he’s given and done for him and his brothers and sisters, but also for so many other people throughout his life.

The work done by the foundation in DRC is impressive. Hundreds of kids got scholarships and they also set up academies in Kivu, Kinshasa, and Lubumbashi.

They’ve also invested in refurbishing hospitals in Lubumbashi and Kinshasa. They also run a mobile clinic in Goma.

According to Biyombo, his dad was the first person who believed in him. He invested money in him so that he can pursue his dreams and because he was certain his son can do it.

Biyombo emphasizes that if they’re a good example now, the next generation may turn out to be even better than they are.
