A Mail Carrier Is Shoveling Snow for a Disabled Veteran

This mail carrier from Johnstown went above and beyond what’s expected from him after a snowstorm resulted in six to eight inches of snow in the area.

Terri Halliday is one of those residents who felt the kindness of this mail carrier. She’s also a Johnstown resident and a disabled military vet who resides in the 8th Ward.

On that day of the snowstorm, she heard that her home alert system rang around noon.

Halliday Realizes the Mail Carrier Came to Help Her Out

The sound meant there was some movement outside so she checked her phone to see. She spotted a truck for mail delivery and the next thing she saw was a man coming up the steps carrying a shovel for snow.

Halliday has gone through a leg amputation and leaves the shovel near the door so that she can access it easier and clean the deck. However, she’s unable to clean the steps.

She said that she was very grateful because this mail carrier shoveled the steps and also the front deck. She couldn’t believe it but felt such gratitude. It took the carrier around five minutes to finish the job.

Although the two have never exchanged a word before, except the quick hello once or twice when Halliday was at the driveway in the power chain and he was on his delivery route, this wonderful thing happened.

Halliday Was very Thankful & Positively Surprised by the Mail Carrier’s Act of Kindness

After he finished the job and returned the shovel at the spot near the door, Halliday met him and thanked him for what he did. She learned that his name is LeRon Britt.

After the act of kindness, Halliday shared a photo of Britt on her Facebook. This was a photo caught by the security camera. The post went viral and was reshared around 800 times! People loved what he did for this veteran.

When he was asked why he did it, Britt said that he doesn’t even think of it.

He is the type of person who will take the heat for using the time to help someone. He’s been working as a mail carrier as of 2016 and has been delivering mail to this Ward for several years. This is how he became familiar with the people on his route.

But, Halliday has moved in just recently. Though he waved her once when delivering the mail, they’ve never met. Britt said he did it because he wants to help, especially to those who can’t do something themselves.

He also added that he’s shoveled walks for other people on his route and whenever he can be helpful, he is. He explains that he would also like someone to help him out if he needs it and this is why he’s doing it.
