When Genji Sato from California decided to take a day off work, he never thought the story would go viral.
Sato is the owner and chef at Sasabune in Glendale and he recently shared a post on his restaurant’s Instagram explaining that the restaurant would be closed for a day because it was his son’s birthday and he had to take him to a special place.
Restaurant Closes on His Son’s Birthday Because of Annual Birthday Trip
The Instagram post said that the restaurant would be closed on “2/28 Monday” and it included balloons and a rainbow. He explained that the closing is because he’ll be taking his son to Legoland for his 7th birthday.
The post started to collect comments and likes fast and one tweet of the sign resulted in 40,000 retweets and garnered almost 560,000 likes.
According to Sato, together with his wife Kaya, they started the tradition when their son Daiki turned 4.
For his 7th birthday, Sato explained how Daiki chose Legoland. And, ever since this tradition, Sato shares the sign of the restaurant’s closing and always gets positive feedback from people.
Sato Is Often Busy with His Restaurant & Does Not Spend as much Time as He Would Like to with Family
Sato has been a chef for more than two decades and he explains that running an authentic Japanese restaurant keeps him very busy. He has to go to the fish market every morning at five o’clock and doesn’t always have time to spend with family because he’s really working hard.
The boy’s birthday was really in October but this was a busy month for his dad so the celebration was delayed, but not canceled.
According to Sato, the family had an awesome time at Legoland this year and they did go-carts and had a trip to the playground.
This year’s celebration was the first in two years since the pandemic. Sato said it was a lovely birthday excursion which the whole family enjoyed.
