The married couple sat in matching wheelchairs while their caretakers ensured everything was going smoothly for the celebration. Since 1954, the actor has been married to Anne Buydens who was his second wife.
Together, they have two sons, that is, Peter who is now 63 and Eric who tragically died in an accidental drug overdose back in 2004 at the age of 46. Inspired by their loss, they went on an awareness-raising path that resulted in an honor bestowed by Columbia University’s Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse’s Inspiration Award.

Back in 1996, Douglas suffered a debilitating stroke and his speech was impaired. So, his acting career came to an end; however, this did not prevent him from living his life to the fullest.

Moreover, his granddaughter Carys posted a throwback photo from Kirk in his younger days and captioned it “102 years young. To my inspiration, my pappy. I can’t put into words how much you mean to me. Happy Birthday, I love you.”

The couple has been married for 64 years and when he was once asked about the relationship with her, he said one interesting story. Namely, once a person becomes disabled, their family usually tries to help them and get things for them.
So, once, when he told his wife he wanted breakfast in bed, she said to him that if we wants breakfast in bed, he should sleep in the kitchen. He added that no matter how famous you are, your wife will still tell you what’s what!
