5 Useful Cleaning Hacks for Spring Cleaning
- Unclogging the sink drain
If you have been dealing with sinks that drain slowly, there is probably a greasy residue in the pipes. Most people will usually call a plumber; however, there is a trick that you may try before you spend a small fortune! You just need two simple, yet potent natural ingredients and you are ready. Combine some baking soda and organic vinegar in a bowl and then gradually pour it into the sink. This will dissolve the residue and destroy the bad bacteria. Wait for a while before you gradually pour hot water and voila, your sink is now draining as it did before!
- Cleaning the dishwasher
Without doubt, in order to have a clean dishwasher that will keep our dishes clean, we need to keep it clean as well. As you may know, the inside of the washer may become filled with greasy substances and food gunk as the time goes by. This being said, it needs regular monthly cleaning to run smoothly. First, you need to remove the bottom rack and check the drain area. Remove all residue and chunks. Then, put a dishwasher-safe bowl with white vinegar on the upper rack. Turn on the dishwasher on the hottest setting. The vinegar will remove the grease and other residue and sanitize the whole washer. Then, sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short cycle with hot water to deodorize the machine and clean stains.
- Degreasing the stove burners
Though you may think otherwise, the stubborn cleaners know that you can clean stove burners in an easy way. First, divide the stove burner parts and put them separately. Then, have ammonia and gallon-sized ziplock bags by your side. Pour a splash of ammonia into the bag and put one of the stove parts into the bag. Close it and repeat the same with the remaining parts. Leave them overnight. Then, remove the parts from the bags and using a soapy sponge, wipe the grime and grease. For stubborn stains, use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
- Refreshing your mattresses
One thing is for sure- our mattresses cannot smell fresh forever and because of all the sweating and dead skin cells. However, there are useful ways to clean your mattresses and restore them to greatness. You just need to remove all covers from the mattress and then sprinkle the entire surface with baking soda. Sprinkle several drops of your favorite essential oil too. This will pull out unpleasant odors and moisture. Leave it like that for a couple of hours while you are finishing up on other cleaning chores and then vacuum it.
- Descaling your shower head
Did you know that hard water may leave mineral deposits and hard water stains through the whole bathroom? And, the shower head is no exception. As a result, the flow of water slows down and your shower head is no longer working optimally. If this is a common problem for you and you are tired of spending money on buying new shower head every month or so, try this trick! Soak the shower head in vinegar overnight. This will dissolve the hard deposits. Just rinse the shower head and it will work as new.
