Ashton Kutcher is much more than a good-looking and acknowledged Hollywood actor- he’s also a businessman who’s invested in tech companies and entertainment. But, his impressive resume doesn’t stop there- he’s also done some amazing work in the fight against human sex trafficking.
Thanks to his non-profit organization Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children, he’s helped law enforcement to identify 5,894 child victims of sex trafficking in the last 5 years.
The organization, which was co-founded with his ex-wife Demi Moore, has also helped in the rescue of 103 children from situations of sexual abuse and trafficking.
These figures were revealed by the report of the organization of 2017 focused on the positive influence they’ve made.
The Importance of Helping Those in Need
Without doubt, Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children has been a significant tool in the fight against this serious issue of child sex trafficking.
They’re also responsible for the creation of a Tech Task Force, a team of more than 25 tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, and Facebook, in the development of a software which helps decrease the minor exploitation.
The report by the organization also notes that they’ve helped disrupt 6,608 perpetrators and empowered more than 140,000 people seeking child sexual abuse material to look for help.
They also helped educate 3.5 million teenagers about sextortion through their campaign Stop Sextortion.
Brief History of Kutcher’s Organization
Previously known as DNA Foundation, it was launched in 2009 together with Demi Moore to help avert child sexual exploitation.
They build tech which helps achieve this goal. Kutcher explains that we can try and be heroes and go help one person or build a tool potent enough to help one person save a lot of other people who’re being abused.
Back in 2017, the star gave a speech on modern-day slavery in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and tried to convince Congress to take the necessary steps to end the horrors which children and women are experiencing worldwide.
He emphasized that he’s there to defend the right to pursue happiness as something bestowed upon all people by the American constitution and how every citizen has this right to do this.
He added that for a lot of people, this right is stripped away and raped, abused or coerced. It’s being sold for momentary happiness of others. He also spoke about the criticism directed at him from people who told him to ‘stick to his job’.
Kutcher Won’t Stop Defending People’s Rights
Sadly, Kutcher had an unpleasant experience of seeing a child at the age of 3 being raped by an adult male in a video content. He explains that the child was being raped by an American man who was a sex tourist in Cambodia.
Sadly and shockingly, the child was conditioned by her surroundings in a way she thought she was engaging in play.
He also recalled being called by the Department of Homeland Security to help with a 7-year-old girl being sexually abused. The content was spread on the dark web and she had been abused and watched for three years.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the culprit so they asked his organization for help.
