In Midst of Coronavirus Outbreak, 3500 People Dressed as Smurfs Gather in France to Beat World Record

Who doesn’t love Smurfs, right? These fictional, small and blue gnome-like imaginary creatures live in mushroom-shaped houses deep in the forests.

Apparently, Smurfs are very loved by some people and they even decided to dress up as them in the midst of the pandemic with the coronavirus.

Last weekend, more than 3,500 people dressed up as Smurfs- they were painted in blue and wore funny hats on the streets of Landerneau in France.

They were apparently trying to break the Guinness World Record for the largest group of individuals dressed up as Smurfs.

Last year, the award was given to a group of 2,762 Smurfs who gathered on the streets in Germany.

People Dressed Up as Smurfs Drank, Hugged, and Danced in France

As it can be seen from the video, thousands of blue Smurfs were happy and danced, hugged, drank, and danced.

They were acting like Smurfs. One of the dressed up people said in the video that they figured they shouldn’t worry and that as French people, they wouldn’t give up on the try to break a world record.

He also added that now they’re champions of the world and said they’re going to ‘Smurferize the coronavirus!’

Has Their Attempt Been Accepted as a New World Record?

According to the Guinness World Records, this effort hasn’t yet been approved. There’s a 15-week review period from when the organization receives evidence from the organizers.

This gathering happened despite France’s government urging citizens to avoid hanging out in large crowds due to the fear from spreading the virus.

However, the mayor of Landerneau, Patrick Leclerc defended the event and said that we mustn’t stop living and this was a change to say they’re alive.

According to the Guinness World Record, all of their applicants need to adhere to local health and safety advice prior to proceeding with the events.

They’re in the process of reiterating this position to the organizers with open applications.

This event took place before France prohibited the gatherings of more than thousands of people to cease the worsening of the virus.
