Dame Judi Dench Becomes Vogue’s Oldest Cover Star in History Aged 85

Dame Judi Dench became the oldest star to appear on the cover of the Vogue in its 104-year history.

Dench who’s 85 today was photographed for the June issue of the magazine prior to the lockdown.

The previous oldest star to appear on a cover of Vogue was Jane Fonda last year when she was 81.

For the front page of the magazine, she’s photographed wearing a pink, floral-themed silk organza Dolce & Gabbana trench coat.

The other images inside show the Skyfall star dressed in a creamy silk tunic by Armani Prive.

Dench Hopes for a lot of Kindness to Come Out after the Crisis

On the topic of the pandemic, the actress said she feels like everyone else and thinks these are unprecedented times which are difficult to understand.

But, she’s happy that this crisis made people more aware of others who’re alone. Kindness, she believes, will be a plus for these people.

Dench recently participated in a star fundraiser for the workers on the frontline and the profits were donated to the NHS Charities Together and to the Care Workers Charity.

Interestingly, she’s become quite the popular social media star during the crisis, even though she’s not using social media herself.

She was shown in videos posted by her family members, including a TikTok dance with her grandson.

About the movie Cats, Dench said that she hadn’t seen it fully yet. However, she’s disappointed by how the CGI graphics made her looked.

She thought she would look elegant, but actually resembled a ‘great big orange bruiser’.

Dench said that she doesn’t like to think too much about her age and when she was asked if there’s anything she likes about being 85, she said she doesn’t like it at all. She doesn’t want to think about it.

She believes age is an attitude.

Vogue Is more than Proud to Feature Diversity & to Have Dench on Their Cover

Edward Enniful who’s the editor-in-chief of British Vogue said of the June 2020 cover star that ever modest, Judi Dench isn’t a fan of the term national treasure.

But, treasure her they do-now more than ever.

The actress’s daughter, Finty Williams also spoke about her mother’s debut for the magazine and said it meant a lot.

She believes that this age affects her a lot about how she feels about herself and this gave her the needed spark of confidence to make her go.

She jokingly said that after the photoshoot, her mother thought she was Beyonce.

Enniful explained the importance of featuring people of all genders, ages, and ethnicities in their magazine.

He believes that diversity promotion in Vogue is never just about one’s gender or ethnicity, but about diversity across the board.

He noted that seeing the stunning women over 50 who participated in this special edition shows that our age will always be a more nuanced and inspiring factor than a simple number could ever suggest.
