17-Year-Old Turns Down $8 Million Offer for Ads on His Covid-19 Tracking Website

Avi Schiffmann has been late on school work, but the excuse is quite good.

The 17-year-old teen who attends high school has made one of the most visited coronavirus tracking websites in the world, which he claims, now takes 100 percent of his free time.

The pandemic doesn’t look like it’s anywhere near the end and the young website wizard claims he’ll continue to actively track it until it sees it come to an end.

As long as the website is working, he’ll be updating it and adding new features.

Once it ends safely, he’ll close down the servers, and maybe create a page which will compare the covid-19 with the Spanish flu or SARS.

He wants it to be a historical piece on the covid-19.

17-Year-Old High Schooler Builds a Popular Covid-19 Tracking Website

His website is a one-stop shop for covid-19 related information.

It updates the statistics constantly and includes the countries worldwide, as well as the number of infections, deaths, recovered, and rate of change. He uses data from the CDC, WHO, and other governmental websites.

He also adds new features like a survival rate calculator and the infections dissolved on a map. Also, he has added pages with basic info on the virus, like tips for hygiene and the symptoms.

The website gets daily visitors from every country in the world which he explains is cool, but he’s not too focused on the numbers.

It’s a responsibility which he takes seriously. He says he was a terrible high school student when his website became popular and skipped 2 weeks of school to make it functional.

The website is highly popular, with around 30 million visitors per day and 700 million in total.

He Has Received Numerous Add Offers, but Rejected Them

Taking into account the huge traffic, the boy has been offered to put ads on his website.

One offer was of $8 million, which the boy rejected, and he claims he could have made more than $30 million if he placed the ads, but he explains that this isn’t the site’s goal.

‘I’m only 17; I don’t need $8 million. I don’t want to be a profiteer’, said the boy.

The boy has quite big plans for the future and he has already received numerous job offers, including from Microsoft, but currently he’s not interested.
