This Factory Started Producing Roof Tiles which Serve as Bird Shelters

One company has discovered the ideal way to help the birds living in urban areas by designing these so-called bird-nest tiles.

Birds are known to create their nests in the most unusual places and around 50 percent of the birds in the world live in urban areas. Unfortunately, living in cities with millions is not always a good thing for them.

A lot of their nests therefore end up being destroyed. Knowing that birds don’t have it easy, this company decided to help by designing a safe shelter for them.

Company Designs Roof Tiles that Serve as Bird Nests

Klaas Kuiken is a Dutch product design agency which constructed a roof tile which you can use as a birdhouse. Hitat Terra is a Turkish terracotta manufacturer from Corum that took over their design to produce their own bird nests.

Mahmoud Basic, regional director for the national parks, says their company created and distributed these tiles without any compensation.

The founders of Hitat Terra, Ali Arslan and Cengiz Basaranhuncal, came up with an idea after seeing the design on social media.

They had to pay $70 to have it, but it was expensive for them and they decided to make their own replica.

The 5th Regional Directorate of National Parks and the Afyon Nature Conservation tested the nest tiles and today, they produce 5 different tiles and provide homes for a variety of birds.

Since some birds flock in groups and nest together, they provided several tiles one near the other to ensure these nests stay together.

How Do the Roof Nests Look Like?

The birdhouse tile comes with a wooden nesting basket and it’s well-ventilated and averts the birds from crawling under the roof.

This is how the nest remains clean. The website gives instructions for how to install them on your roof.

These nests are also designed to keep birds safe from predators.

Some People Dislike the Idea of Roof Bird Nests

Although some people loved the idea, there were those who criticized it too.

Namely, they worry that the bird droppings may end up damaging properties or that they’re too small and can become too hot for the birds.
