This Woman Builds a Pub in the Garden to Prevent Her Husband from Going to the Pub

To prevent her husband from going to the local pub too often, this wife decided to build him his own pub in the back of their garden.

Jayne Tapper, 48, had enough of her husband spending too much time in the local pub. So, she decided to build Paul a pub at home and thus, keep him nearby.

And, she succeeded in her plan- she built a cabin-like pub and named it the Doghouse Inn.

Jayne, who works as a nurse in Newton Abbot, Devon needed 5 months to build the pub. Now, she hosts parties for Paul and his friends, as well as for her children.

Her husband who’s 53 and an engineer loves visiting the local pub and she could never keep him at home.

So, she came up with the idea to build one at home-become her own landlady and tell people that her husband’s in the doghouse!

They had to level out the garden anyway which already costs a lot, so it seemed like the ideal chance to play out what she had planned.

The couple has 3 basset hounds and one of their friends created a sign for the pub with one of the dogs Rufus on it.

After building the pub, she continued to transform it to achieve what she wanted in order for the place to look awesome. The couple also has 3 children, Tom who’s 31, Lorren who’s 24, and Jack who’s 26 and all of them love the garden pub.

They also bring friends around and get the drinks they want, without spending money elsewhere.

How Much Did the Couple Spent for the Pub

  • Materials for insulation, free
  • Building the cabin £2,700
  • Bar £400
  • Church pew £100
  • Fire heater £70
  • Arcade game £650
  • Fridges £100
  • Signs & pictures, £50

The total cost was around £4,000. Although this isn’t a small amount of money, the family believes it will save them money in the long run as they won’t be paying for expensive beverages outside.

Plus, they won’t need to pay for an Uber when they need to get back home after a night of drinking.

Jayne explains that the pub has become more than just a man cave for her husband-she loves it too and she often spends nights there, chilling. She feels like she has her own local pub!
