Sammy the Friendly Seal Is Determined to Make Friends with anyone on the Beach

Sammy is a seal which first appeared on the beach during quarantine peak when only few people could be seen out of their homes. It seemed like the ideal chance for the young seal to rest on the wet sand.

Seals are usually shy and elusive animals; however, this one, Sammy, was regularly visiting the beach in Weymouth, Dorset for three months. Shortly after, he became quite the attraction for tourists.

Sammy even started to approach humans and now he’s a regular with the beachgoers and hops on their paddleboards.

He also tries to get on the kayaks while people are in the sea and he’s also not camera-shy.

We’ll Do Everything to Protect Sammy

Several volunteers have come together to help keep Sammy safe-the seal is now a local celebrity.

He is mostly friendly; however, as he’s still considered a wild animal, it’s best to not interfere or touch it. It’s best to watch Sammy from a certain distance and enjoy his quirky personality.

Together with the police, the RSPCA have been discussing possible plans to ensure Sammy and the beachgoers are safe. Tourists are advised to take care while swimming nearby and don’t encourage contact with the animal and enjoy him from a safe distance.

Will Badman is a regular at this beach and early one morning, when he came to catch the sunrise, he saw Sammy. He decided to take photos of the seal and it turned out he loves the cameras.

He used long-lens camera to make sure he doesn’t disturb him from being too close.

The volunteers are trying their best to ensure Sammy can enjoy his beach days and all visitors on the beach remain safe.

Seeing this special visitor isn’t something that commonly happens in this part of the UK.
