Seemingly Simple Horse Riddle Is a Real Head Scratcher

Who doesn’t love good puzzles and brain teasers, right?

They’re awesome, fun, and keep our brain sharp. But, sometimes, a riddle appears that seems to put all of our mental muscles to the test and we actually have to scratch our heads to try and solve it.

One such riddle is the seemingly simple riddle with the horse. Yes. With the horse; it was shared for the first time on an online forum called Mumsnet and it involves a horse and a complicated buy-and-sell strategy.

The original sharer says that only a couple of individuals on the internet were able to solve it; others were entirely wrong.

So, what about you? Do you think you could give it a go?

Let’s check it out below and see whether we can solve it or not.

The Horse Riddle: Can You Solve It?

“A man buys a horse for $60. He sells the horse for $70. He then buys the horse back for $80. And, he sells the horse again for $90. In the end, how much money did the man make or lose? Or, did he break even?”

At first, it may seem simple and you try to get at it. If you’re not closely following through it, you can actually get stuck.

So, what do you think? What’s the answer?

THE ANSWER:

The man has made $20 profit.

Here’s how you can get to this solution. You remember the $10 he made the first time. Then, you divide the second transaction into two parts: he bought for $80 and sold for $90; that’s another $10.

Some people claim the riddle is confusing because he sold the horse for $70 and then bought it for $80 and made it seem like he’s not gaining money, but actually losing.

If you were able to solve it, kudos to you! And, don’t fret if you weren’t able to solve it, you’re not alone.

After all, it’s just for fun and training our brain!
