Anonymous Donor Surprises a Widowed Dad of 7 with $10,000

One widowed father, during the holiday season, received an amazing gift of $10,000 from a donor who wanted to stay anonymous.

Dakota Nelson, a father of 7, aged 1 through 16, works three jobs, trying to keep up with the demands of raising a big family alone.

Sadly, in 2018, Dakota found his now-late wife Ream, aged 38 at the time, unconscious, lying on the ground outside of their home.

Dakota says he’ll never forget the day he lost the love of his life. He remembers working in the garage, goofing around when she came back and saw her on the ground unconscious.

The doctors later discovered she was oxygen-deprived for more than 20 minutes. She was in a coma for a couple of weeks and then passed away in September.

A Good Samaritan Surprises the Family

One Christmas, as the family was still dealing with the loss of their beloved mother and wife, one anonymous donor put a little smile on their faces.

Namely, the East Idaho News visited Nelson’s home and surprised him with a sum of $10,000.

Nate Eaton, who worked for the news outlet, said that Secret Santa asked if they could bring this dad a $1000 in gift cards and $1000 to another store, as well as a check to $8000.

Dakota and his family were amazed by the sum and couldn’t contain their joy. Dakota started crying from happiness and kindness.

There’s also a GoFundMe page opened up for this amazing family. It has raised $40,000 in just four months.

Dakota and his family later wrote a thank you note to the anonymous person who donated the sum.

Read part of the moving letter here:

It’s hard to write this as I am at a total loss of words. There’s no way for me to accurately convey how grateful we are for this kindness. As I was surprised with the gifts, I looked at my kids- who will remember this even forever as the best time they had in a hard time. Thank you for being an example to my family on how to look out for the needs of others…”
