Pregnant Mom Hailed a Hero after She Saves 4 Kids from Drowning

This pregnant mom was hailed a hero after she saved four children from drowning in a lake.

The 27-year-old wanted to take her kids to the First Street Beach Pier at Lake Michigan, but she was having second doubts because of the strong winds.

The stay-at-home mom from Manistee, Michigan Alyssa DeWitt eventually decided to go. Once they were there, she spotted a group of girls, all younger than 15, going into the water.

This is when she became worried about their safety.

Soon after they went in, Alyssa said how one of the girls started to wave her arms towards her. This is when she knew something wasn’t right. She got up and pulled her kids out of the water and then she ran to the pier.

She managed to call 911 but she couldn’t hear anything because of the noise from the strong winds and waves.

She wasn’t sure the dispatcher heard her and she didn’t have time to wait and find out. This is when she put her phone next to her and hoped they could hear and she went in to help the girls.

The brave mom, despite being five months into her pregnancy, laid on her belly and started to pull the girls over the slippery and rocky pier.

She later explained that whenever she managed to get one of the girls halfway up, a wave would hit them back down and almost pull her over.

Alyssa said her turning point was when one of the girls looked at her and said ‘I’m going to die’. She told her she will not allow this to happen and that she’ll do her best to get them out.

Alyssa successfully pulled out the three girls while another group that was also set off back towards the shore rescued the fourth one who got close to the shore, but couldn’t stand up because she had an injured leg.

How Did She Manage to Rescue all Three?

When asked what took her to save the girls, Alyssa replied that she has no clue how she did it and remembers it was all pure adrenalin.

She sustained a swollen wrists, but both she and the baby were okay. Alyssa didn’t forget to say that her six-year-old daughter was the real hero.

The girl managed to keep her two-year-old brother safe during the whole accident.

Between her screaming into the phone for help and screaming to the girls what they should do so she can pull them out, it’s good that she didn’t have to scream to her kids too.

Her boy was scared and constantly tried to reach her on the pier. Luckily, her daughter would pick him up and take him back into the sand and showed extreme calmness.

It’s Good that She Was on the Beach that Day

Alyssa says she’s extremely proud of her because she did an amazing job. She said she’s happy she was there that afternoon because the beach was practically empty, besides the girls and Alyssa and her kids.

Who knows what would’ve happened if they didn’t decide to come to the beach that day.
