Remember the Teen Who Sold His Kidney for an iPhone?-He’s Bedridden for Life

When he was only seventeen back in 2011, Wang Shangkun decided to undergo a surgery to get his right kidney removed so that he could sell it on the black market and buy an iPhone.

The boy from Anhui, China actually sold his kidney for $3,273 and bought an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4!

When asked about his shocking decision, he replied ‘why do I need two kidneys?-One is enough’.

Obsessed with owning an Apple device, the boy became interested in removing his kidney after a message he got from a black market organ peddler on one online chatroom.

This peddler told him that he could earn over $3,000 if he sells a kidney.

And so he did.

Boy Underwent Illegal Surgery to Remove His Kidney & Sell It

After he learned about this, the persistent Shangkun underwent an illegal surgery in the Hunan province and got his right kidney removed.

However, several months after, the boy developed an infection in the left kidney due to the unsanitary and illegal surgery.

The improper postoperative care also contributed to the infection. Unfortunately, his condition worsened and he’s now bedridden and diagnosed with renal deficiency.

He needs regular dialysis too.

His Mom Noticed Something Wasn’t Right

The boy confessed about the procedure to his mom who noticed something was off after he came home with the expensive Apple gadgets.

After this illegal surgery, nine people were charged with intentional injury and organ trading.
