Loving Couple Donates 322 Gift Cards to a Local Hospital

During one September night in 2021, Jennifer Lount-Taylor woke up with one unusual idea.

For 18 years, she and her husband Ron have made Nelson their home. They have a deep love for this city and have visited it on a whim before they came with a moving truck a month later and decided to call it their place.

However, lately, the couple has been troubled by life in the city. Many of the doctors and nurses went from being praised during the early days of the pandemic lockdowns to being vilified in 2021 for different reasons.

Jennifer was angry that there were no more heart emojis on the windows and doors of homes and businesses and no more drive-bys with cheers out of the window.

She was sad that the gratitude now seems like it’s nowhere to be found. This is when she and her husband decided to do something amazing.

The feedback was wonderful.

Couple Donates more than 300 Gift Cards to the Local Hospital

In September, the couple sent a box to the Kootenay Lake Hospital. The box contained $50 gift cards for different restaurants throughout the city. This couple bought 322 gift cards like this or one for every person who works at this hospital.

They spent $16,000 for this selfless act of kindness.

They choose gift cards for restaurants because offering a meal to all of the key health workers is pivotal. According to the couple, the donation doubled as support for the local restaurants that had it hard during the pandemic.

The couple has since received more than 60 letters of gratitude from the employees in the hospital and they’ve been amazed.

In one of the letters, it said that these gifts brought about a beautiful buzz in the hospital, especially among those who don’t get the recognition they deserve. The hospital’s staff has been dealing with Covid for two years without complaints.

These letters, according to the couple, meant the world to them.

Jennifer explains that the gift cards are secondary to the lovely letters they received. She believes that what matters is our words and how we express our gratitude-the size of the gesture doesn’t matter.
