Secret Santa Grandparents Pay Off 82 Bills at a Toy Store & Help Struggling Families

This elderly couple selflessly paid off 82 lay-bys for toys of 82 families in a toy store.

The manager of Toyworld in Bendigo, which is 150 km north of Melbourne, Debra Delves, explains that the couple came into their store with the goal to give back to the families who’ve had it hard during the pandemic.

The Secret Santas weren’t wealthy themselves, noted Delves. They actually had a hard time in their youth so their wish was to change as many lives as possible. They had financial problems when their children were younger and perfectly understand today’s struggling parents.

Delves said how the couple told her that there was a Christmas during which they couldn’t afford anything so they went to St. Lukes which is like St. Vinnies. They still remember how they felt at the time.

Today, with their kids grown up and feeling like they can afford something more, they wanted to help other struggling families. Delves enjoyed the moment of calling 82 families that they chose randomly and informing them about the good news.

She also added that people don’t realize the effect that the last 12 months had on these families. Some customers came in each week and paid $5 to $10 on the toys on lay-by.

This donation changed their Christmas and it means the world to them.

One of the People Who Got Their Lay-By Paid Off Is a Dad of Twins

One of the men who had his lay-by paid off by the couple is a dad of two twin boys who had only $5 in his bank account and was unsure how he would pay for the presents for his sons for Christmas and for their birthday which was approaching.

When people heard about the elderly Secret Santas, another man from Bendigo offered a $100 donation to the dad with the twins so that he can take them out for dinner on their birthday.

Delves said this brought all the employees to tears. It was amazing seeing people sharing their feelings and she was deeply touched by this selfless act of kindness. Bendigo and Victoria were blessed by a generous and positive wave and it opened people’s hearts.
