10-Year-Old Girl Says She Survived a Russian Blizzard by Hugging a Dog for 18 Hours

This 10-year-old girl managed to survive 18 hours stuck in a blizzard in Russia because she was being kept warm by a stray dog.

The unidentified girl was reported missing from her school in the middle of January in Uglegorsk, Russia. The search for the girl was highly complex due to the ongoing blizzard that caused a two-foot snowdrift.

Luckily, the girl was found 18 hours later.

Girl Says She Stayed Warm while Stuck in a Blizzard Thanks to a Dog

When the search and rescue party located the girl, she was sitting on a mattress below a balcony near a shelter, hugging a stray dog. According to the authorities, she told them that she was holding the dog for warmth.

The fact that she was alive and well in this weather is a miracle, according to one of the volunteer searchers Anatoly Ivanov. The girl was immediately taken to a local hospital and was shortly released in good health.

The rescuers said that they looked all night and the visibility was very low. Their hands were in mittens, but it was so cold that they couldn’t straighten their fingers.

They were therefore doubtful about finding the girl alive.

The tip came from a local person who recalled that he spotted a girl playing with a stray dog near one shelter in Komsomolskaya Pravda.
