Portable EV Charger: A Game Changer for Drivers Who Have to Plug-In

A new portable EV charger is expected to be the long-awaited game changer for EV drivers. It’s currently in the prototype phase and it’s expected to be delivered to customers in early 2023.

Named the Go, this portable charger is developed by ZipCharge. This power bank on wheels gives EV drivers the chance to park and charge their cars, no matter where they are.

The early details from the debut at COP26 showed that this charger has the size of a compact wheeled suitcase and that it can provide 20 to 40 miles of range within 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the capacity.

This charger can be stored in a boot or at home and it can be charged by any standard home plug. The user can hold it by the retractable handle and wheel it to where their EV is and plug it into the port for charging.

High Interest from Customers WorldWide (Already!)

According to co-founder of ZipCharge, Jonathan Carrier, this portable solution led to high interest in potential customers from all over the world. ZipCharge is already in discussions with plenty of large corporations.

This includes fleets, private individuals, end-destinations like supermarkets, hotels, leisure activities, and retail complexes.

They will discuss these, but also for any other locations where the Go can be a convenient and flexible, as well as low-cost, charging option for anywhere and everyone.

What About the Price of the Portable EV Charger?

The price of the charger is expected to be confirmed in Q4 2022 as part of the preordering process and according to Carrier, they’re led by the desire to democratize EV charging.

This means that the Go will have a competitive price and a comparable one to the purchase and full installation cost of a home charger that’s fixed.

The Go Is only the Start of a Global, Portable Platform for EV Charging

The Go is only the first part of a global, portable platform for EV charging that includes software, hardware, and ownership models, all with the goal to provide practical and inexpensive EV charging options to people from different parts of the world.

ZipCharge is also working on portable EV power banks that will create an intelligent energy management platform that will bring resilience and flexibility to the national power grid.
