The Shopping Spree of a Lifetime: Family Has the Best Time after they Were Refunded $10.4 Million instead of $100

This woman from Australia and her family enjoyed a multi-million dollar shopping spree after they were refunded $10.4 million rather than $100.

Thevamanogari Manivel from Melbourne was supposed to get a $100 refund from a cryptocurrency exchange platform in May, last year.

But, the website did a major mistake and transferred Manivel more than $10 million.

She knew what she should not do: give the money back!

After seeing how much money she had in her bank account, Manivel called her family, including her sister and daughter, and divided the money between them.

The family lived for seven months like millionaires. Manivel bought a $1.35 million mansion for her sister with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a cinema, and a gym.

But, everything came tumbling down in December last year when an audit helped the company realize what they’ve done.

Legal Action Follows After the Audit

Manivel is now facing legal action and she’s been ordered to pay back a major amount of the money, plus interest. Her bank accounts were frozen in February; however, she had already transferred most of the money to another account and a large sum went to her daughter.

Manivel’s sister’s account was also frozen. She had become the owner of the mansion in Craigieburn. She and her legal team didn’t show up to court during the case against them so the Victorian Supreme Court ruled in favor of the company that did the transfer by accident.

Justice James Dudley Elliott ordered Manivel’s sister to pay back the entire cost of the mansion, plus interest.

The statement explained that it was established that the property was purchased with funds that trace back to the wrong payment and wouldn’t have been in her hands if this payment hadn’t been made.

She got rich unjustly by buying the mansion through wrongful payment.  The judge added he was satisfied with the orders to sell the property.

And, different cases are underway against other defendants in order to locate the rest of the missing money.
