Wine Fairies: Secretly Gifting Booze & Treats to Neighbors Who Could Use a Smile

The world has been in lockdown more than 500,000,000 days and it’s been such a difficult time for everyone. But, if there’s a single good thing that’s come out of it, it’s definitely the immense support and love people are showing for each other.

Although we’re physically apart, it’s communities that are coming together, stronger than ever before.

And, some neighbors have been pretty creative- they’ve made social distancing ‘I Spy’ games; children have been sending care packages and writing notes to their elderly neighbors- such a beautiful gesture.

Some People Have Used the Lockdowns to Deliver a Different, Adult Package

Some generous and creative people have decided to deliver a different type of care package-this group calls themselves ‘wine fairies’ and they’re taken over the internet.

These mysterious creatures leave a variety of alcohol bottles on peoples’ doorsteps-they ring and then run off.

Forget about water or earth fairies-wine fairies are the best, wine lovers would say.

The story of the wine fairies began after a Facebook group the Sisterhood of the Travelling Wine was opened up by one Cara Rindell-a wine loving mother who wanted to make her neighbors and friends smile, even strangers, in her hometown of Raleigh in North Carolina.

Her group now has almost 80,000 members and many others have started opening up their local groups with the same or similar concept.

But, not all of the neighbors are surprised when the fairies appear-they join the group and have questions to be accepted-the location and whether they’re of legal drinking age.

Then, the fairies collect the sent addresses and choose wines and then prep for their visit.

They Make Sure the Styling Matches Their Name

The fairies have magic wands and wear tutus and have sparkling wings- they take it to the streets and bring the care packages to the homes.

Some of them even have assistant fairy dogs which are so cute!

The neighbors open their door and see a gift basket.

40-year-old Cara Rindell said about the movement she created that it’s all about bring happiness in people and creating new connections.

It all began as a simple act of kindness to a stranger and it transformed into a friendship with the neighbor you didn’t know you have.

The wine fairies movement began in one place-but it’s now popular in 10 different states. Rindell hopes it spreads throughout all 50!
