Heroic Dog Dies Protecting His Owner & Dog Friends from a Bear

Thousands of people online have paid their tribute to the English setter Pete who bravely tried to fight off a bear in New York State.

Pete has been hailed a hero after he lost his life protecting his dog owners and other walkers from a bear encounter during a hike.

The English setter stood his ground firmly after disturbing the black bear while walking with humans and other dogs.

Pete Showed Exceptional Bravery & Protected Everyone

One Twitter user who’s a friend of his owners wrote that his friends lost their sweet Pete who protected the rest of the crew and made sure they’re safe. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the injuries. This older dog went out as a true hero!

This post got thousands of replies with one of the users commenting that this courageous warrior saved others before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge and wished that he rests in peace, without any pain.

The Me and My Shadow Pets on Instagram which adopted Pete confirmed that they’ve lost their dear and brave old man Pete.

The group of dogs surprised a black bear off the trail while hiking in the morning. Pete then stepped up and held the bear until they could take the other dogs to safety.

When the other dogs were safe, the walkers scared off the bear and quickly took Pete for treatment, but it was too late.

The post said that Pete was very brave and never alone in the pain. On the X-rays, they found bad spinal damage which meant he could never walk properly if he could survive all those surgeries. So, they decided to let him go.

Safe Travels, Beloved Pete

They said goodbye to their beloved Pete and wrote:

“Run free Pete, you no longer have all those aches and pains of old age. You had great 18 months with us, running the days away as you loved.”

They also thanked people for the outpour of support and love they’ve shown them. #petethehero was a senior dog they adopted after fostering. His actions showed that no dog is too old to be left alone or too lost to be loved.

Safe travels Pete. We bow down to heroes like you!
