Thanks to his popular litter-picking dog, this 80-year-old man reunited with his long-lost brother and sister after being apart for 20 years.
Alfie Kitson and his five-year-old dog Millie reached the headlines before Christmas because of the pet’s amazing skills to clean up rubbish by discarding it in the trashcan.
The Spanish podenco and his owner became a common sight on the streets of Herford, ever since Alfie and his wife went back to Britain from Spain some 18 months ago.
At one of these regular rounds, Alfie was seen by his sister’s husband while cleaning up the streets with Millie. Since Millie was already popular, the long-lost siblings could easily find Alfie in the village of Ullingswick where he resides with his 75-year-old wife Judy.
Millie learned this trick from her time spent in Spain. She was eight months old when they found her abandoned in a trash can and tied to a tree branch. Alfie and Judy took her in.
The parents-of-three say that they rescued Millie due to their house feeling empty without a pet.
The Long-Lost Siblings Reunite Thanks to Millie’s Popularity
Alfie has since reunited with his 84-year-old brother Dave and his 71-year-old sister Anne after living apart and not being in contact for two decades. The grandad of seven drifted apart from his siblings after he moved to Coil in Malaga, Spain, twenty years ago.
A retired plumber, Alfie explained that his brother went to London and his sister went elsewhere so they all drifted apart. He lived in Spain and returned 18 months ago due to his wife’s illness.
They still had family here and decided to come back; although he hadn’t heard from Dave and Anne for two decades, the two of them were in touch.
Alfie got a call from his granddaughter who told him that his sister Anne is trying to locate him and that she’s only eight miles away. One day when he came home, there was Anne and soon after, they also got in touch with Dave.
Making Up for the Lost Time
The three siblings are doing their best to make up for the lost time; however, Covid is still causing some distance. They all went on a walk with Millie and it was really emotional and they planned their get-togethers in the new year.
Dave and Anne who contacted throughout the years didn’t know for sure if their brother has gotten back from Spain since they had no address. Luckily, Anne’s husband, the 73-year-old Ray spotted Alfie and Millie on a walk in the city center.
According to Ray, Alfie went to Spain without leaving an address and they finally got to meet up after 20 long years. The reunion was full of tears and hugs.
