These Polar Bears Are Living Their Best Lives on this Abandoned Island

Dmitry Kokh is a Russian underwater and wildlife photographer who took a trip of a lifetime to one abandoned meteorological station at the Kolyuchin Island and made stunning photos that went viral.

This small island in the Chukchi Sea is in a remote area of the Russian arctic and there are no humans who live there. However, Kokh discovered during his visit there that other creatures are enjoying the absence of humans.

This island is inhabited by polar bears that have transformed the old buildings and the station into their homes and from the photos he took, it seems they’re enjoying it a lot.

Stunning Photos: Polar Bears Are Thriving on this Abandoned Island

These photos are a true sight for sore eyes since more and more images of weak and decimated polar bears are shocking the world, showing us that they have it really hard. On the other hand, the polar bears on this island look healthy and happy.

Kokh says that the chance to see and photograph these majestic creates is thrilling and not something he’ll forget.  Together with his traveling buddies, Kokh covered more than 1200 miles of the coast in a sailboat, exploring and photographing the remote landscape.

The group wanted to take photos of polar bears on Wrangle Island, but this wasn’t successful.

Despite being popular for its bears, when the group arrived, they were nowhere to be found. But, they were treated to something much better and unexpected. Kokh explains that nature has its way to send you something when we expect it the least.

When the group passed the Kolyuchin Island, they spotted a movement in the window of the houses. As they approached the island, they noticed there were bears.

Since they’ve never seen them in these buildings before, it seemed like the perfect setting for these amazing photos. Check them out below:
