5-Year-Old Donates all He Has (30 Cents) to a Homeless Man & Starts a Kind Reaction

Justice Smith and his 5-year-old son were going back home from the dentist when they spotted a homeless man in the median strip of the road.

According to what Smith wrote on his Facebook, he wanted to help out the man by giving him some money, but he quickly realized that he hadn’t brought any cash with him.

But, his son reacted fast.

He Wasn’t Sure If His Son Should Give the Man the 30 Cents He Had

The boy, Justus Mateo, started insisting to give the man the 30 cents he had in his pocket. Smith said it looked like his son heard his thoughts and then responded out loudly. His dad was more than happy to do this, but he did hesitate.

He didn’t want to give only 30 cents to a man who needed so much more. His pride and thoughts of the unknown reaction of the homeless man to being given only two coins were preventing him from letting his boy do it.

However, he soon realized that this is something he’s been teaching his son and now that he wants to do everything he can to help out, he wasn’t thinking of allowing him to do it. However, this was a teachable moment and Smith realized this.

They always teach him to lead by example, so this was a moment to let him lead and allowed him to give what he had to the man. He thought to tell him to wait until they have at least a dollar and he almost told him that it wasn’t enough.

He realized that it was a teachable moment and if he didn’t allow him to give the man what he had, he would prevent him from doing a good deed. If he hadn’t allowed him, he would’ve taught him that pride was more important than doing what you can to help out a person in need.

Boy Gives the Homeless Man His 30 Cents & Inspires a Kind Reaction

This is when he rolled down the window and apologized to the man because he didn’t have any cash with him, but he told him that his son wants to give him something and told him that he recently turned five.

The homeless man’s face lit up and told the boy “God bless you, little man! Thank you so much!” The only thing that matched the light in the stranger’s smile was the even bigger smile on Justus’s face, said his dad.

Mr. Smith believes that their kind reaction started that day in Nashville in Tennessee and others rolled down their windows too to donate. Mr. Smith says that their boy reminded them that it’s always about the heart.

Oftentimes, it doesn’t matter how much or how little we have, but rather to give in love and sincerity because this will bless us more than we think!
