In 15 Months, this Dad Lost 228 Pounds & Runs Marathons to Stay Healthy for His Children

Although the number was certainly shocking, the thing that bothered him the most was his low energy.

Sparkes couldn’t climb the stairs without quickly becoming fatigued and would also tire very fast when playing with his two children.

So, one day, he decided it’s time for a change.

He decides to shed pounds and gain back his physical strength. And so he did. But also did a lot more.

Sparkes Goes onto a Weight Loss Journey & Makes a Crucial Change

Sparkes soon changed his diet and increased his physical activity-he was able to shed amazing 228 pounds in only 15 months.

Believe it or not, he also trained for and completed his first marathon.

Before his diet, he consumed around 6000 calories on a daily basis. He mostly ate pizza, chips, bacon, and too many burgers, as well as 2 liters of coke per day.

It was therefore vital to change his diet habits.

Today, he explains, he doesn’t really snack anymore. His diet contains a lot of chicken, versatile veggies, and for breakfast, he often chooses granola or porridge.

6 months after he started this journey, he built his stamina with the Couch to 5K app that helps new joggers to slowly gain the endurance they need to run 3 miles.

After this, he joined one running club and then, 15 months into his weight loss journey, he crossed the finish line of his first marathon.

Proud that He Could Run a Marathon & that He Finished It

Sparkes finished the race in 5 hours and 24 minutes. Despite the good time, it wasn’t as nearly crucial to him as showing his family that he can achieve anything he decides to.

His children and wife waited for him at the finish line and he says he felt amazing.

And, he’s not stopping anytime soon-he signed up for 4 more marathons and hopes to begin training for an ultra marathon where you need to run 50 miles.

A life changing story that will definitely inspire every person to not just do better, but to realize that the sky’s the limit.
